Drew Barrymore's Transformation

Updated: Sep 19, 2023

Remember sweet Drew? It feels like just yesterday that we introduced you to her, a dog who had faced unimaginable hardship but showed incredible strength and resilience. We're here with a heartwarming update on her transformation, thanks to your unwavering support.

Drew Barrymore's journey began when she was found as a stray in Mesquite, Texas. The condition she was in was beyond distressing. Her body covered in mange, her eyes sealed shut from infection, and her skin infested with parasites. Her hind end and tail were matted and packed with fecal matter, indicating a complete lack of care and attention. It was evident that Drew had endured unimaginable suffering. The condition she was in indicated how much neglect and suffering she had endured.

She also had ear infections and an intestinal infection. She was on 12 prescriptions from the vet. Her mange wounds had also grown infected so she had bleeding wounds covering her body. She was emaciated and had to eat a specially prepared diet 4x a day. She laid on her foster parents moaning in pain the first two weeks. "The minute we held her she melted into our arms and you could sense her relief. She never lost her trust for people," explains Amy, her Foster Mom.

But beneath the physical pain and neglect, Drew's spirit remained unbroken. Drew's journey with us has been nothing short of remarkable. She's been on a challenging road to recovery, with rounds of medications and supplements. But what shines through the most is her unwavering will to live and her remarkable resilience. Drew's progress has been astonishing, and every step she takes toward healing fills our hearts with joy.

Today, Drew is thriving in the loving care of her foster - now adopted - family. She receives not only the medical attention she so desperately needed but also the emotional support she craved. She has a newfound canine friend who stands by her side, offering companionship and understanding as she heals both physically and emotionally.

Her affectionate personality shines brightly. Now, she adores every toy that comes her way and relishes anything she can chew on. Playing with her new canine siblings has become a favorite pastime, and she's found a running buddy in her new dad. But Drew's charms don't stop there. She's earned the honorary position of the mascot for her human sister's 5th-grade softball team, complete with a specially ordered jerseys. Beyond that, she's proven to be an immense source of emotional comfort for her human brother, who grapples with anxiety due to his Autism. Drew's immediate connection with him is heartwarming and their bond has become a beacon of hope amidst the daily sensory challenges he faces.

Drew's incredible story showcases the incredible impact our community can make when we join forces. Your unwavering support has been pivotal in her inspiring recovery, and for that, we are deeply thankful.
