Getting Adoption-Ready

Quarantine & Medical Guidelines for Foster Dogs

Before a foster dog is cleared for adoption, a few essential health and safety steps must be completed. This page outlines the quarantine timelines, medical milestones, and adoption-readiness requirements for both puppies and adult dogs. Whether your foster is recovering, growing, or finishing treatment, we’ll help you track their progress so you can confidently prepare them—and potential adopters—for their next chapter.

Understanding what needs to happen before your foster pup can go home—for good.

• All pets complete a minimum 10-day quarantine (two weeks for some medical cases) before becoming eligible for adoption.

• Puppies under five months may be adopted after their second round of shots, with a signed spay/neuter contract and a $100 refundable deposit. They must be spayed or neutered by six months to receive the refundable deposit back.

Adult dogs (five months and older) are required to be spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated, and cleared for adoption. If heartworm-positive, they can still be adopted if the adopter is committed to completing treatment. Dallas DogRRR covers treatment costs, but the adopter must arrange transportation to and from appointments.
